WHAT WE DO

  1. We carry out advocacy, awareness creation for good family school children feeding and also support improved community Green (environmentally friendly) Nutrition and livelihoods by providing each house hold with a variety of fruit trees to provide essential nutrients and reforestation as well as providing wood trees to offer sustainable source of fuel and community reforestation, support to income generating activities.

 

  1.  We provide Static and Outreach Services for management of Sexually Transmitted Diseases and communicable diseases, Family planning, Capacity building for community Based Volunteers (CBVs) and peer counselors in educational institutions in various areas through outreaches and awareness raising seminars; Voluntary HIV/AIDS Counseling and Testing (VCT), care and support programs for people living with HIV and AIDS.

 

  1. We carry out advocacy, awareness creation and support to the welfare of needy and vulnerable categories of children through prevention of gender based violence, supporting child academic and vocational skills, school feeding and child rights protection.

 

Health and Training Facilities

MEDREP Uganda also operates a Medical Centre and a Senior Secondary School that offers Ordinary and Advanced level curricula as well as Vocational skills that include tailoring, catering, carpentry and joinery, brick laying and concreate practice, technical drawing and metal work and entrepreneurship.

Strategic Objectives

Reproductive Health


Provision of Static and Outreach Services for management of Sexually Transmitted Diseases and communicable diseases, Family planning, care and support programs for people living with HIV and AIDS.

Reproductive health services help in educating every youth about sexual and reproductive well-being, creates awareness among adolescents about safe sexual practices and protects both the mother and the child from infectious diseases and to deliver a healthy as well as helping in preventing sexually transmitted infections, including HIV/AIDS.

  • Establishing and equipping MEDREP centres;
  • Immunization coverage for mothers and children provided;
  • Prompt and effective malaria treatment;
  • Provision of insecticide Treated Nets (ITNs);
  • Spraying of houses residual anti-malarial insecticide
  • Educating community about drug dosage, toxicity and drug resistance;
  • Health education talks to the communities to raise awareness on the need to prevent disease infection through proper hygiene and sanitation conducted.

Sexual Health & HIV/AIDS

  • Provision of VCT, ART, RCT, HCT and laboratory;
  • Static and outreach clinical services for prevention and treatment of Sexually Transmitted Diseases provided;
  • Family planning counseling for men and women provided,
  • Circumcision and vasectomy services provided
  • Female contraceptives and tubal ligation provided,
  • Provision of condoms to clients
  • Peer Education through clubs;
  • Utilization and awareness of long term and permanent family planning methods such as Tubal Ligation, Norplant and Vasectomy through outreaches, mass media communication and community involvement increased.

Green Nutrition and Livelihoods support

Providing each house hold with a variety of fruit trees to provide essential nutrients and reforestation as well as providing wood trees to offer sustainable source of fuel and community reforestation and livelihood capacity building.

Malnutrition is the main cause of stunting, severe wasting, and intrauterine growth retardation which are major contributors to child mortality, while malnutrition is the major cause of morbidity for all age groups.

Malnourished children suffer from irreparable intellectual impairment and stunted physical growth. Hungry children make poor students and are prone to drop out of the educational system while Malnourished women give birth to low birth weight babies, transferring the broad economic disadvantages of malnutrition in their own lives to the next generation.

Food and nutrition security are intricately linked to forest cover due to pressure on forests for land firewood and charcoal as the main sources of fuel to cook. Complementary activities will focus on promotion of fruit tree growing (mango, avocado, papaya, orange, guavas or tangerines) and utility trees for fuel and other uses such as shade, boundary markers (reduce land border disputes).

  • Sensitization of Households and communities on good nutrition practices including balanced diets for infants, school children, young women and men of reproductive age.
  • Responding to and mitigating acute malnourishment cases
  • Advocating for enactment of bylaws and ordinances that promote household nutrition and food security at district and sub-county levels
  • Establishing 3 nurseries of fruits and fire wood trees in the districts

Child Protection

Carrying out advocacy, awareness creation and support to the welfare of needy and vulnerable categories of children through prevention of gender based violence, child academic and vocational education, school feeding and child rights protection.

Children subjected to violence, exploitation, abuse and neglect are at risk of death, depression, developmental delays, poor physical and mental health, HIV/AIDS infection, educational problems, displacement, homelessness, vagrancy and risk of developing substance abuse during adulthood as well as poor parenting skills later in life.

  • Increased capacity of communities to prevent, manage and reduce cases of Child Abuse.
  • Equipping Children with LPS in order to protect themselves from abuse.
  • Offering psychosocial support to abused children in order to restore their self-worth     will be in place and implemented.
  • Empowering communities to advocate and demand for the rights of special interest and most at-risk populations.
  • Youthful sex workers trained in entrepreneurship and vocation skills to make the young people self-reliant and contribute towards household income and welfare
  • Communities’ capacity to prevent and manage gender-based violence and discrimination increased

Research

Supporting research through mobilization of research funds and offering consulting services. This is for generating and sharing new knowledge and information as well as providing opportunities for learning.

Research is a cross cutting program aimed at informing our interventions, testing theories and generating new information and knowledge for the sustenance and development of our programs.
